How To Identify Scams

Received a random SMS from a +7 number (Russia.. really????) that said that they cannot deliver something to me due to incomplete address and they gave me a link to fill in my address. I don't remember buying ANYTHING from Russia so I googled and realised that it must be a SCAM! The message had a link that ended with SPOST... in Singapore where I am from, this implies it is from SINGP POST.. the postal service provider here. BUT Sing Post website has a page that explains that their URL will not end with Spost, Singpost, or SG Post and that they will not ask for personal details or payment online. You can read more here https://www.singpost.com/online-security-you When in doubt, always google, and if you are not sure, it is better to lose some delivery fees than to lose money from your bank acc or have your phone hijacked. 

 You know how it is if you received an email from your boss, you are likely to follow instructions? Well, it has lately come to my attention that scammers are impersonating management leaders and going to respective employees to ask them to send information over.  A friend working in finance said she has received a WA message from a regional management leader in her company. She was surprised initially because she was wondering how he had gotten her personal number.  But the profile photo was indeed a photo of that particular leader and so she let her guard down and engaged him a little by asking him if he was in town. Following that, he actually told her... "I will like to inform you that we had a meeting with the board of directors." Latest phone scam: a legit local mobile number will show, and you will pick it up since it does not have +65 in front. Then the person says he is an old friend, asks you to guess who he is, in Malaysian-accented Chinese, and says you usually call him by an English name. Don’t identify yourself. Don’t guess the other party’s name. He will be whoever you say he is.. Then they will ask you for details or give u some link to do their usual scam.
