Bank Transactions Phone Scam

Today I received a phone call from a mobile phone number.  When I picked up, it was a very professional typical voice answering system that sounds similar to those used by large companies… The message said that there are many transactions being made in my account and that I should press 1 to speak to a customer service officer. By now I already suspected they it is a scam mainly because my corporate  phone that received this call  is NOT LINKED to any bank. Out of curiosity, I pressed 1. So it went to another audio that said their lines are busy and that I should hold the line. Then someone picked up the phone and in a Singaporean accent asked “Good morning, how may I help you..” I was pretty amazed!!! But so that they cannot record my voice. I hung up after I took a screen capture of the number. Then i called my bank to check that no transactions were  made to my account and reported this to them. I asked the bank what was the right thing to go the next time and the bank officer sai

Sms Scams About Deliveries From Postal Service Provider

Received a random SMS from a +7 number (Russia.. really????) that said that they cannot deliver something to me due to incomplete address and they gave me a link to fill in my address. I don't remember buying ANYTHING from Russia so I googled and realised that it must be a SCAM! The message had a link that ended with SPOST... in Singapore where I am from, this implies it is from SINGP POST.. the postal service provider here. BUT Sing Post website has a page that explains that their URL will not end with Spost, Singpost, or SG Post and that they will not ask for personal details or payment online. You can read more here https://www.singpost.com/online-security-you When in doubt, always google, and if you are not sure, it is better to lose some delivery fees than to lose money from your bank acc or have your phone hijacked.

Management Team Scam

You know how it is if you received an email from your boss, you are likely to follow instructions? Well, it has lately come to my attention that scammers are impersonating management leaders and going to respective employees to ask them to send information over.  A friend working in finance said she has received a WA message from a regional management leader in her company. She was surprised initially because she was wondering how he had gotten her personal number.  But the profile photo was indeed a photo of that particular leader and so she let her guard down and engaged him a little by asking him if he was in town. Following that, he actually told her... "I will like to inform you that we had a meeting with the board of directors." "Decisions have been taken at the level of our subsidiaries" "I'd like to share a letter concerning you personally." "Do you have a personal email?" That was when she got suspicious. So she started to ignore hi

Unpaid Traffic Fine Scam

Scammers just never fail to run out of ideas. I know a few people who fell for this one.  You will be sent a SMS message that informs you that you have unpaid fines. And so you worry and click on the link.. and you will then be brought to a fraudulent website that looks like a site where you can pay the fines.. and if you do pay, you have to say goodbye to your money..  You can read more about the scam here https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/courts-crime/over-100-police-reports-filed-on-phishing-scam-purporting-unpaid-lta-fines-and-bills?fbclid=IwAR3g6IGM2Mxy5tJ49u_UD-nnU62NQoOCkrKZ_XUGXqufVVDRGz6LuvD3028 While this scam is pertaining to Singapore, I am sure there are similar ones out there. If ever you are asked to pay money online for whatever reason, always be vigilant.
