Online Game Scams

Image result for online game scams

Lately, I heard about a new format in scams from a friend.

I think it is some sort of scam that works on people's greed to get more without doing much.

As always with anything online, if it sounds too good to be true, it definitely is too good to be true:)

So according to my friend, the scam goes like this...

  1. Someone will send you a link to join this group chat and in the group chat, there will be people telling you how you can make use of Online Game Sites to make money!
  2. They will then tell you that you can do so easily because there is a "teacher" who will teach you how to do so because the teacher found a weakness in the programming or a bug in the website. All you need to do is to follow the teacher and it is 100% will make money... they encourage you to start with a small amount first....
  3. The teacher has fixed timings where they will come into the chat room to teach you how to play the games... and then people will start trying and share that they have made small amounts of money.
  4. At this point, the hard sell comes in and they will sell you the idea of investing larger amounts since you already saw how easy it is to make money. They even have TESTIMONIALS of successful cases of people who made tonnes of money and are enjoying life right now...
  5. If you do invest, you will find the website crashes and you will be unable to take out your "winnings".
In any case, I think it is just prudent to remember that if it sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true.

DBS Bank Scam

Today I received a call 87592694... which looked like a normal local phone number.. BUT the caller had Filipino accent told me they are from DBS bank. (RED FLAG 1)   Then she informed me that someone had used my acc to transfer money to buy a gaming laptop and asked me if I bought any gaming laptops. I told her NO. And then she kept asking me this same number cos I gave a one word reply. Cos I think most people will panic and want to check this or that.. and she just asked me like 3-4 times till I asked her back "How many times do I have to say NO to you?"  (RED FLAG 2)   Then she said now that she confirmed I didnt make the purchase, she will have to undo the transaction by asking me for my name to verify it. To make me trust her, she asked me if my number is 1234567. Now the thing is.. that is my number but it is my work phone number and it is not linked to any of my banking accounts. But i still wanted to see where this goes... so she asked me for my name to verify my ...

Blindfold Gag Video Call Scam

If you receive a video of your child being gagged and blindfolded, it is important to stay calm and CALL YOUR CHILD TO CHECK IF THIS IS TRUE. Lately, there are more elaborate scams happening where they scam the child and asked them to take a "x-ray" via a video call and send the video of the gagged and naked person to their parents overseas to demand for ransom.  https://mothership.sg/2021/05/scam-blindfold-gag-video-call/  And one such case happened to a student in Singapore whose parents were residing overseas. The said student was told he is involved in some investigation by the police in China. "He was instructed to remove his top, gag and blindfold himself to take an "X-ray" over the video call. He was also told to isolate himself in a hotel room and cease contact with family and friends." Also, if any stranger came to you and told you that you were under investigation, the first thing you can do would be to contact the police in that country to check...
