New Ministry of Health (MOH) Scam

Today, an idiot called me and told me that he is from MOH.. Number one, he used my dialect name but pronounced it in mandarin and pronounced my surname as the last word.. which is sala already. Scam alert, he speaks mandarin. He speaks with an accent and it sounds like he is from China. He asked me if I had sent in a package from overseas. I replied, "Even if I did, what has it got to do with MOH?" He said that the package contained banned medication and would like to find out more like why I did that. I asked him if he can speak english.  He said he can but he cannot use english because this is CHINESE department of MOH. I told him my mother say speak chinese one is scam... LOL Immediately someone else came and took over and said this really is MOH, I should check their number online and we can see this is MOH hotline number. I told them dont waste my time and hang up. He called me back again and asked me to check MOH number. (which checks out as their general hotline number

Lazada Credit Card OTP Scam

My sis told me her friend had just been scammed in a very high end scam and had her credit card used to purchase high ticket items.   We figured maybe she was not careful enough about keeping her credit card but we found out later that she did not pass any credit card info to the scammer.  We came across this post and figured this must have  been how she got scammed.  In the end,  no one could stop the transaction and she was at risk of losing the money because neither Lazada or the bank could do anything about this.  Sharing the post here for educational purposes...  Info drawn from:  https://www.facebook.com/704083217/posts/10159005397258218/?d=n  Reproduced here with permission of Stanley Fu.  Scam alert (Very high level) and I almost fell for It!  ——— Someone who speaks very fluent English called me. He spoke with a slight Indian accent.  He claimed to be from Lazada and said that they detected a transaction from UK, while my last log IP was in Singapore. Hence, they have barred th

Blindfold Gag Video Call Scam

If you receive a video of your child being gagged and blindfolded, it is important to stay calm and CALL YOUR CHILD TO CHECK IF THIS IS TRUE. Lately, there are more elaborate scams happening where they scam the child and asked them to take a "x-ray" via a video call and send the video of the gagged and naked person to their parents overseas to demand for ransom.  https://mothership.sg/2021/05/scam-blindfold-gag-video-call/  And one such case happened to a student in Singapore whose parents were residing overseas. The said student was told he is involved in some investigation by the police in China. "He was instructed to remove his top, gag and blindfold himself to take an "X-ray" over the video call. He was also told to isolate himself in a hotel room and cease contact with family and friends." Also, if any stranger came to you and told you that you were under investigation, the first thing you can do would be to contact the police in that country to check

COVID Scams

Just received a call today warning me to QUARANTINE myself immediately. It says that if I am unsure about what to do, I can press '9'. I knew it was a scam but just to see what they are up to, I decided that I will press 9. A woman speaking in heavily accented english answered me and said "Hello.." So I replied, "Hello..." and waited. And then she kept saying hello and I waited... It is apparent she is from China based on her accent. Then I asked her what is this about... She said this is a call from MOH and asked me if I knew how to speak mandarin.  "Are you kidding me, you are calling from MOH in Singapore and you cannot speak english?" I asked her. She hung up on me. When I told friends, we agreed that such scammers are really black hearted to make use of people's fear during such turbulent times.  Be careful and remember to remind the old folks at home of such scammers! Long Lost Friend (Update)

I received this message today... And it was the exact same message that has been going around. Noticed it was sent out of a +62 number and is expecting you to reply to a +852 number.  Means this scam is STILL ACTIVE NOW. But this scam is sort of quite obvious...  They tell you cannot return to sg.. but sending you from a +62 number.. so where the hell are they based huh? Send you photo say havent heard from you long time. My friends who havent seen me dun send me photo unless we started chatting again and say I asked.. how old is your kid now... or they have something new in their life to share like a new partner.. its just not logical to send you a photo for no reason other than to bait you   If she can send out the message using old number, why need to contact her using the new number? I read somewhere that scams are filled with loopholes so that they filter away the people who are more careful because it takes alot less effort to scam money out of people who are not careful.  Any

Furniture and Reno Scams

Recently,  a friend of mine was scammed by a furniture retailer  called SOS, now called Collective Living and also known as Prestige Modern Space Living. As she researched more to get back her refund,  she discovered owner of the store was also involved in some renovation scams.  Be careful when looking for a renovation contractor or buying furniture in Singapore.  Do your due diligence before you make big purchases.  You can read more here about her story.: http://www.belife.coach/scammed-of-5000/
